Wheel Alignment Matters

What Wheel Alignment Means For Your Tires

Have you noticed your car pulling to one way instead of driving straight like it should? If you have, it is possible that you are in need of a wheel alignment. Wheel alignments are important to not only help you steer straight, but to also ensure that you get the most life out of your tires.

What is a wheel alignment?

Wheel alignments are when a mechanic adjusts the angle of your wheel so that they are perfectly vertical and parallel. This provides you with a smooth and straight ride. It is said that a proper wheel alignment will lead to less uneven tire tread which allows you to save money on tires in the long run.

Why does tire tread matter?

To be frank… the less tread you have on your tire, the less safe you are on the road. It reduces your ability to stop quickly, make turns effectively, and grip the road during slippery or wet conditions. Without having enough tread, you could lose control of your vehicle and cause a collision because your tires couldn’t grip the road the way you needed them to.

What tire tread depth is suggested?

In most states, tire tread depth is established, as a minimum requirement, to be 2/32 of an inch. That means that when the tire is wore down to this measurement, motorists must replace the tire. If any portion of your tire tread hits this mark, it is advised that you look into purchasing a new tire. This will be a safer fit for you and any passenger you have in your vehicle. Now, for those who may not know how to tell if their tire tread is becoming dangerously low, there is a method called the “penny test.” The “penny test” is where you place a penny between your tread lines with Lincoln’s head upside down. If you are unable to see the top of Lincoln’s head between your tread’s ribs, your tire is at least at the minimum requirement for tread depth. If, however, his whole head is visible, it is time to purchase a new tire and Highland Tire can help.

Wheel alignments matter because they have the ability to save you time, money, and keep you safe on the roads. Drive safely and drive straight with Highland Tire.
