Fall Driving Safety Tips

Ready or not, fall is just around the corner and we want to make sure you and your vehicle are ready for anything the new season may bring our way!

Fall Driving

Slick Roads

With fall comes chilly rain and leaves on the road - a combination that leaves more room for your car tires to lose the grip they need to keep you safely in your lane. Always be sure to drive more cautiously in damp conditions, leaving a few extra seconds of space between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. Don’t forget, if your vehicle does begin to hydroplane, don’t use your brakes! Guide your car back into the line of trajectory you desire and remove pressure from the gas. You will be back in place in no time.

Check Your Treads

Another way to make sure your tires are gripping the road surface to the best of their ability? Check your treads for wear. We have a quick and easy way to diagnose the state of your tires on your own without even needing to pop your head into one of our stores right away! Take a penny and insert it between the treads of your tire. If you can see all of LIncoln’s head, it means you need to come in for a new set of tires for optimal road grip.

Deer Season

Watch out for Bambi! Peak season for deer-related collisions is from October to January, particularly during dawn and dusk hours. Keep your eyes peeled for any deer that may be running across the road or highway and use your high beams for increased visibility whenever you can - just remember to turn them off if you see a vehicle coming your way to avoid blinding them!

Darker Road Conditions

As fall sets in, so do shorter days. While this is great for getting your kids to bed on time, it’s less optimal for driving later than 6-7pm. Make sure if you do need to drive as dusk hits, you are extra alert for any pedestrians or critters trying to cross the street. As soon as the sun begins to set, turn your headlights on for increased visibility across the board. Be sure you also leave a little extra room between yourself and other vehicles to ensure that you have time to make quick decisions should the need arise.

Clean Your Lights

Dirty road conditions and rain can lead to head and tail lights that have gunky build-up. Be sure to wipe them down with a solution that will break down any grime and ensure clear visibility when you’re on the road in darker conditions. Try to clean them at least once a month to keep yourself safe!
